Impact of Kolb’s Experiential Learning Model on Language Anxiety among 9th Grade (CBSE) Students By Santhosh Albert Saldanha and Dr. Vijayalakshmi Naik

Abstract

Kolb’s experiential learning model in language is learner-friendly and reduces language anxiety. In Kolb’s experiential learning model students are playing an active role. It helps in developing skills, attitudes, and new ways of thinking among the learners. In the present study, the researcher has reviewed prior studies and in-depth analysis of literature was done to formulate hypothesis. The research done to the CBSE board and English as the medium of instruction. The 35 students were taught using the conventional method of teaching and 35 students were taught using Kolb’s experiential learning model. The instructional package prepared for the topic of THE BOND OF LOVE (English Prose). The Kolb’s experiential learning model includes Stage 1: Experiencing (concrete experience), Stage 2: Examining (Reflective observation), Stage 3: Explaining (abstract conceptualization), 4. Concrete Experience, Stage 5: (Active Experimentation). By conducting pre test and post test data collected. It is analysed by applying the t-test and the hypotheses were tested. The experimental group exhibited less language anxiety as compared to the control group. The instructional program based on Kolb’s experiential learning model activities reduces language anxiety. The study recommends to extend it to different curriculum and also for different age groups of students.
