Abstract
Refugees regard the issue of preservation of their native culture and identity in the host country as an important component of their adaptation and survival while education is important for the survival and social integration in new environment. This paper explores how Tibetan Refugees in India and Nepal achieve this in an institutionalised manner. Tibetan Schools, Tibetan Children’s Villages (TCV), Higher education facilities such as Dalai Lama Institute, Vocational Training Centres, Youth hostel and other polices by Tibetan Government in Exile is examined to understand the dynamics of educating and rooting refugees in culture and arming them for adaptation in host country. Paper brings out Tibetan children receive a sound education, a firm cultural identity and become self-reliant and contributing members of the Tibetan community and the world at large.
