A survey was conducted on coastal district of Odisha to explore the plants used in family rituals. Data was obtained by following standard and established procedures. Total of -98 plant species belonging to 48 families are collected and documented during the study period for various types of rituals. The most widely cited plant species for the rituals are Mangifera indica, Oryza sativa, Cocos nucifera, Zyzyphus mouritiana, cynodon dactylon, Musa paradisiacal, Areca catechu. The present study may serve to protect the biodiversity of local flora for the benefit of the mankind.
